Nicolas ROUSSELOT will defend his thesis in pharmacology – specialising in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance – under the supervision of Prof. Antoine PARIENTE, entitled:

“Pharmaco-epidemiological assessment of outpatient medication use in France: use of national, regional and practice-based health data sources“

Nicolas ROUSSELOT is a general practitioner, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of General Practice at the University of Bordeaux, and a PhD student in pharmacoepidemiology. His research has focused on the pharmacoepidemiological assessment of outpatient medication use in France. His aim was to investigate the benefits, limitations and challenges of pharmacoepidemiological assessment of the use and misuse of over-the-counter medicines, using national and regional health data sources as well as data from medical practices. Her thesis centred on three complementary areas of research. The first, based on data from the Medic’AM health insurance scheme, aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the first lockdown on the use of systemic antibiotics in outpatient settings in France. The second, based on regional health insurance databases, sought to assess the impact of the requirement to prescribe pregabalin via secure prescriptions in May 2021 on its use and misuse in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The third study, carried out using field data collected with the involvement of junior doctors on observation placements in general practice, aimed to describe the prescribing practices of GPs regarding NSAIDs in the former Aquitaine region.
