Stéphanie DEBETTE at the reception ceremony for the newly elected 2024 members of the French Academy of Sciences
RetourStéphanie Debette, former Director of the BPH from 2020 to 2022, is now an Academician and one of the world’s most brilliant scientists.
Stéphanie Debette is a vascular neurologist and epidemiologist. She was director of our BPH Bordeaux Population Health research centre from 2022 to 2024, and during her time as director she led an IHU project. She founded the Cerebrovascular Health Institute (IHU VBHI), which won the France 2030 plan’s call for IHU 3 projects in May 2023, and is currently its Scientific Director. Since January 2025, she has headed the Paris Brain Institute (CNRS/Inserm/Sorbonne University) in Paris.
Stéphanie Debette works to foster global collaborations, both to increase the potential for innovation and to enable equitable future clinical applications. She is principal investigator and coordinator of large international collaborative studies in the genetic and molecular epidemiology of cerebrovascular disease (stroke, dementia). Her research has identified many of the genomic regions and biological pathways involved, particularly in small cerebral vessel disease, and highlighted their impact on neurodegenerative processes.
Its research is opening up therapeutic prospects, with new targets and opportunities for repositioning drugs.
In addition to numerous awards and recognition for her scientific excellence, she was awarded the Inserm Grand Prix 2024.
