France Alzheimer supports the VILLADEM project led by Jérôme WITTWER
RetourThis year, the France Alzheimer association is providing financial support for the innovative VILLADEM project ‘Consensus Study on European Alzheimer’s Villages’, led by Jérôme WITTWER, Professor of Economics and Head of the EMOS research area (‘Economics and Management of Healthcare Organisations’) within the PHARes team at the BPH

The VILLADEM project is part of many studies on Alzheimer’s Village models, a promising new concept. There are currently around ten such establishments worldwide, including the Village Landais Alzheimer in Dax. This is based on close collaboration with researchers at a resource and research centre integrated into the facility, which involves the BPH’s ACTIVE team, led by Hélène Amieva, a professor of psychogeriatrics.
The initial results of this work are very encouraging, and it now seems essential to establish a clear framework for this model to enable its roll-out in other regions and countries. With this in mind, the VILLADEM project aims to propose a common and operational definition of Alzheimer’s Villages at European level.
This work will be based on international collaboration bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals and practitioners in the field. To develop this definition, the specialists are drawing on an analysis of the various existing Alzheimer’s Villages across Europe in order to identify their core values, their care organisation, their architectural design, their funding models, and the ways in which families and members of the public are involved.
At the BPH, research into Alzheimer’s Villages plays a significant role in our activities. The ACTIVE and PHARes teams have already collaborated to improve and evaluate the effectiveness of the care model for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, whilst taking into account the costs of care.
This new funding is a valuable contribution to furthering our understanding through our teams’ work on the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease, taking into account the cost-effectiveness of this type of facility.
