An initiative that could transform the prevention of strokes
and dementia in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Living labs open the way to a new approach to co-constructive research, by offering practical prevention strategies and developing partnerships between stakeholders from different sectors. The aim? To test and evaluate innovative interventions to produce health recommendations.
This model, inspired by the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL), encourages exchange and co-creation not only between experts, researchers and healthcare professionals, but also with citizens, as well as other private sector and public policy actors.
On 22 April 2026, the ‘Brain Resilience’ Living Lab was officially launched, led by the VBHI Institute, focusing on issues related to brain resilience to certain conditions such as strokes, dementia and neurodegenerative diseases.
Coordinated by Dr Carole Dufouil, an epidemiologist and director of the PHARes-BPH team, the project is supported by an executive committee including a project manager, Valérie Guérin. It aims to implement large-scale initiatives on brain health, assess the impact of these interventions and formulate recommendations for public policy, including social inequalities in health.
