Retour

As part of the cultural programme organised by the Bordeaux Ville Sans Sida association, the BPH will host a conference on 19 May entitled ‘Clinical HIV/AIDS research in Gironde: 40 years of history – what next?’.
Leading figures in HIV/AIDS research in Bordeaux will come together to offer a retrospective look at research into the prevention and treatment of the disease

The BPH counts among its members biostatisticians, epidemiologists and clinicians who are pioneers in research into HIV and AIDS.
For 40 years, since the discovery of the virus, numerous research teams in Bordeaux have been working to improve the treatment and prevention of the disease, not only in France but also in the Global South.
The quality of this research is still recognised internationally today and has greatly influenced subsequent research in this field.

In particular, the former director of the ANRS, François Dabis, professor of epidemiology and public health, hospital practitioner, member of the Ghigs-BPH team, and president of CoReSS NA (formerly COREVIH Nouvelle-Aquitaine at Bordeaux University Hospital), who previously led the “HIV, Cancer and Global Health’ at the Inserm Centre U 897, which later became the Bordeaux Population Health U1219, he is now the president of the Bordeaux Ville Sans Sida association.

The international “Villes sans Sida” (‘Cities Without AIDS’) movement is an initiative launched by the City of Paris in 2014. Four years later, Bordeaux joined the initiative.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the emergence of the virus, and consequently of research into it, the Bordeaux Ville Sans Sida association is organising a programme of cultural events.

In this context, on 19 May, the BPH is hosting a conference dedicated to healthcare professionals to review research involving people living with AIDS, major cohorts in France and Africa, and research into prevention methods such as PrEP and vaccines.

Key figures in HIV/AIDS research in Bordeaux will come together for a round-table discussion.
