The ‘first 1,000 days’ correspond to the period from the beginning of pregnancy to the child’s second birthday.
During these first 1,000 days, the body is particularly sensitive to its environment. The exposures to which the child is subjected can increase or reduce their risk of developing health problems later in life, making this period a decisive stage for the rest of their life.
This scientific finding has been made a priority policy for the government, and in 2020, the first report on the first 1,000 days was published.

BPH members committed to addressing issues related to the first 1,000 days using an interdisciplinary approaches

The objective of this EHESP doctoral network seminar is to take an interdisciplinary approach to the key lessons learned from the report on the first 1,000 days, in order to explore perspectives related to the role of the environment and social inequalities during this crucial period of life.

In this context, Blandine Le Provost (BIOSTAT team) and Tom Fischer (PHARes team) took part in organising the seminar ‘Environment and Society – Building Equity from the First 1,000 Days’.
Other members of the centre, such as Marie Tartaglia (post-doc, Epicene team), Raphaël Enaud (MCU-PH, Bordeaux University Hospital, previously seconded to the PHARes team) and Stéphanie Vandentorren (Santé publique France, PHARes team), will also speak during the day.
