I am Professor of Epidemiology at the Bordeaux School of Public Health (ISPED) in France, with more than 25 years of experience in research on HIV epidemiology and public health challenges. I have been leading since 2001 the “HIV, cancer and global health” research team within INSERM U897, the Epidemiology Research Centre at ISPED.

My long-lasting scientific interest is indeed on the public health challenges of HIV prevention and care: prevention of mother-to-child transmission in Africa, prognosis of antiretroviral-treated adults and children in France and West Africa and more generally operational research on HIV programs and their outcomes, universal test and treat in South Africa.

I am the principal investigator (PI) of the International epidemiological Database to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) consortium in West Africa, an NIH-funded initiative initiated in 2005 and still ongoing. I am the co-PI of the first Universal Teast and Treat cluster-randomized trial curently ongoing in rural South Africa, the ANRS 12249 TasP trial, supported by the French ANRS and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I am the PI of the oldest cohort of people living with HIV in France (ANRS CO3 Aquitaine Cohort) and the co-PI of the nation-wide cohort of HIV-HCV co-infected patients (ANRS CO13 HEPAVIH). I have regularly participated to the elaboration of the guidelines and recommendations for HIV care and prevention in France and for the World Health Organization, UNAIDS and UNICEF in the past 15 years. I participate also to many HIV consortiums and groups that are active in Europe, including the EuroCoord/Cohere Collaboration where I stir the hepatitis co-infection working group.

My scientific productivity can be described through 600 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and my contribution to the Editorial Board of two leading journals: AIDS and Journal of the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. I am the Chief Editor of a reference textbook in Field Epidemiology published in France in 2012.

I have been appointed in February 2015 by the French Minister Ebola Task Force to coordinate a post-Ebola public health response for West Africa
