{"id":1162,"date":"2016-11-23T09:31:55","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T08:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bordeaux-population-health.center\/ebola-prevails-clinical-trial-announces-encouraging-results\/"},"modified":"2016-11-23T09:31:55","modified_gmt":"2016-11-23T08:31:55","slug":"ebola-prevails-clinical-trial-announces-encouraging-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bordeaux-population-health.center\/fr\/ebola-prevails-clinical-trial-announces-encouraging-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Ebola: Prevail&rsquo;s clinical trial announces encouraging results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The study has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine. <span lang=\"EN-US\">This trial was conducted by a consortium <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">of <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0international research team<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"> involving Inserm and <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">the <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">national institutes of health, as part of a <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">partnership<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"EN-US\"><strong> between researchers, Guinean authorities and NGOs.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Denis Malvy, <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">permanent senior <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">researcher of the IDLIC team \u00ab\u00a0Infectious Diseases in Resource-Limited Countries\u00a0\u00bb of the Bordeaux Population Health U1219, is the co-<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">lead <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">investigator of this trial for Guinea. Through this first <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">randomized <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">trial of drug candidate evaluation, the study&rsquo;s results predict the potential benefit of ZMapp treatment for patients with acute Ebola disease. Together with the best possible standard of care, its administration is associated with a higher survival rate than the standard of care<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> alone, though limited capacity for recruitment of participants at the end of epidemic prevented to achieve the level of significancy <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">. <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">Launched in March 2015, the study<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> concerned patients recruited <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">dur<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">in<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">g the<\/span> <span lang=\"EN\">2014-2016 <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">West Africa<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> Ebola outbreak<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> (in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone). <\/p>\n<p>Denis Malvy said: \u00ab\u00a0<em>The results of this trial <\/em><\/span><em><span lang=\"EN\">are<\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> a milestone in the <\/span><span lang=\"EN\">? <\/span>(je ne comprenais pas la phrase) battle against the Ebola virus disease. <\/em><span lang=\"EN\"><em>I am also delighted that this has been achieved thanks to an unprecedented partnership between researchers, the Guinean authorities and NGOs.
