After having worked in the hospital setting as a cardiologist, Professor Iwami created a prospective, population-based, nationwide registry of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in Japan in collaboration with emergency medical services.
Many papers about resuscitation and emergency medicine were published from this large cohort. He also works on prevention of sudden cardiac death by giving classes on how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to use AED.
